Profile of Artists

Zack Razak (b. 1979) aka lilpinkdevil, graduated with a Diploma in Visual Communications from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore, 2000). Since then, he has made work both as a street artist and a designer. Currently a full-time artist and freelance art director, Zack’s strength lies in illustration, having developed the signature and emblematic character of lilpinkdevil. In the domain of urban art, he is part of the premier Singapore collective, Artvsts. Having graced many a magazine, mural or fine art exhibition, lilpinkdevil bridges the gap between graphic design and fine art and has been specially created by Zack to reflect his character, outlook, philosophy and influences.

He has exhibited and performed his work in various group shows such as Forplay (Warong M Nasir, 2006), Txtrapolis (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, 2005), Street Tease (Bugis Street, 2005) and SENI Singapore 2004 (Singapore Art Museum, 2004). Apart from that, Zack has conducted workshops in street art as well as carried out commissioned mural projects that straddle both commercial and community-focused jobs for companies and organisations such as Canon Singapore Pte Ltd, Zouk (a Singapore club), National Youth Council and others. His artworks have also been featured and published in local periodicals such Juice, Playtimes, SECDC Contact as well as international publications like Compendium Artists Stylebook and Computer Arts.

Zulkarnaen Othman (b. 1979) is also a graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with a Diploma of Visual Communications (2000). Zul is also known by his street persona, ZERO and is a member of the urban art collective, Artvsts, who consider themselves street art activists. Recurrent motifs in Zul’s work are that of masks and human portraiture which sees him creating art that revolves around street culture, graffiti art, street art and the urban landscape.

Selected group shows include Forplay (Warong M Nasir, 2006), Txtrapolis (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, 2005), Street Tease (Bugis Street, 2005) and SENI Singapore 2004 (Singapore Art Museum, 2004). Additionally, he has participated in several mural projects as well as conducted workshops in graffiti art. This year, he has shown his work in the traveling exhibition, Fiction@Love (Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai) which will open at the Singapore Art Museum in May.

PARTNERS INVOLVED

Wunderspaze is a Singapore-based contemporary arts initiative that aims to be a site of exchange for local and other Southeast Asian artists and curators. With a vision of becoming the definitive platform for experimentation in contemporary practice and development of young artists and curators living and working in Southeast Asia, Wunderspaze intends to make its work through the research, documentation and presentation of works by young artists and curators living and working in Southeast Asia. The initiative also intends to develop networks in the region by way of facilitating transactions for artists and curators alike. Aside from artistic development within contemporary visual art and associated practices, the concurrent direction is to examine and develop curatorial approaches, models and methodologies.

Wunderspaze is in its infancy, having been formed in late 2005. Currently, it is being helmed and driven by its Artistic Director, Khairuddin Hori, a multi-disciplinary artist who was worked across the many forms of visual arts, theatre and performance while maintaining a constant drive for the experimental and the visceral. Wunderspaze’s current projects include the artist development programme involving lilpinkdevil and Zero as well as a year-long exhibition series sited in an Indonesian food caf? that aims to reach out to a broader, non-arts based audience.
